Blog Post 1: Jenn Calaway

Jenn Calaway is a junior at CU Boulder studying Creative Writing. She is a bit of a traditionalist with a massive crush on Charles Bukowski. Jenn enjoys the wind in her hair, the sun on her face and lemon sorbetto. Jenn is from Utah, originally, but respectfully asks that this information not be considered when weighing her overall contribution to Academia, she is ultimately just a squirrel trying to get a nut.

In Her Course
Thomas Barbey

Anthony Martorana is from San Diego, California. He is studying studio arts with an emphasis in photography at CU Boulder. He finds influence through surrealism and minimalism with artists like Salvador Dalí, Man Ray, Thomas Barbey and Kyle Thompson. Karen Clancy was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan but has lived in Colorado most of her adult life. She is a visual artist, focusing specifically on the medium of film. The moving image intrigues her because of its power to enchant and portray. She hopes to work with film  for her entire life and finds it important to create social change with her work. Blog Post 1 - David Coombs

My name is David Coombs, and I am a Junior currently majoring in the Film Studies program at CU. I've enjoyed some of my experiences in the film school so far, although I feel working towards that field may overshadow drawing and music, my other two passions. My favorite medium for drawing is mechanical pencil on paper with stencils, and my instrument and music of choice are the electric guitar and heavy metal. I hope to one day build a career for myself that allows me to work universally with film, photography, drawing, and music.

Blog Post 1 - Patrick Schappe

Hey all, my name is Patrick Schappe and I'm a junior at CU. I'm an art major with an emphasis in drawing and digital art. I'm an aspiring concept artist hoping to make it in the entertainment industry. I'm also creating my own graphic novel, so I need all the writing experience that I can get. The majority of my inspiration comes from the outdoors, so I spend the better part of my time lost in the woods.

Blog Post 1: David Bashford

Before coming to CU, David Bashford lived the entirety of his adolescent life in Fort Collins, Colorado.  He found a heightened interested in school when working creatively, so he decided to pursue a Film degree in Boulder. David is interested in all facets of movie making, but recently found himself especially interested in sound design. This fits well with some of his hobbies, which include singing/songwriting and audio recording (one might as well say music in general). Though David takes his passions seriously, he takes care to make sure that he does not take himself too seriously, and so he enjoys spending a lot of his free time creating videos that lean towards the side of absurdity. Here are a couple examples of his original songs, one for a class last semester, and one for a fun (and maybe offensive) project with a friend of his.

Blog Post 1: Sierra Gonzales

My name is Sierra Gonzales. I've lived in Burbank and Santa Clarita, CA and Westminster, Parker, and now Boulder, CO. I enjoy playing the violin and drawing people in my sketchbook. I am interested in people's habits, personality, and thoughts. My goal is to live like a real artist--to travel, explore new things, and to paint/draw the places and people I see. My inspirational artists include Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. I also constantly follow the works of Veronique Meignaud and Nimit Malavia. I have an extreme passion for art and will do anything to accomplish my goals. I find beauty in this world...and I want to share that beauty with others who cannot see it.
